Riva - Meštrović gallery

We start cycling at the promenade – Riva – across Matejuška, an old part of town where fishermen would come back from a hard day’s work at sea with fish. We continue to Sustipan, which is a sort of natural jetty for the hill of Marjan. Marjan – a hill, a peninsula and a forest situated at the western part of the peninsula of Split – is itself a small peninsula. It’s 178 m tall and its tallest peak is called Pelegrin. The route takes us along the southern slopes of Marjan, where we pass through the bays Ježinac and Kašuni and The Gallery of the most famous Croatian sculptor Ivan Meštrović.

Continuing to Bene bay

We continue along the western side, covered in pine trees until we get to Bene bay. After a short break, we continue to the north gates of Marjan. The route then takes us through Varoš, an old part of Split and up to the first viewpoint – where the view over Split is spectacular and an ideal chance for a selfie. We go on, passing along the church of St Nicholas until we get to the top of the hill. We go down via Plinarska street to visit the statue of Grgur Ninski near Diocletian’s palace.

Grgur ninski - old town market - Riva promenade

After a photoop with Grgur Ninski we continue towards the promenade trough the old town’s marketplace. The market itself is very rich and colourful, filled with fruit vegetables fish cheese and meat. From there we cycle on to our meeting point at Riva promenade. End of tour.
